FYI: Based on the overall consensus of those who chose to ... um... choose, I personally am going to voluntarily "restrain" myself (i.e. "self-govern" ) from including comments or extra links in the "quotes" thread. But I might just link to HERE if I have a lengthy rant or mini-essay related to one of the quotes posted there

Yes, Darren, I'm trying some new thing the nurse brings me now. I don't quite understand why everyone is to touchy and stuff, but they say that maybe if the new meds work better than what I've been on they may let me out of here in a few months.

Since you mentioned Thomas Paine, I could not resist posting this from section II of Common Sense: "no man in his senses can say that their claim under William the Conqueror is a very honorable one. A French bastard landing with an armed banditti, and establishing himself king of England against the consent of the natives, is in plain terms a very paltry rascally original." And I stand corrected, I know I have mentioned Thomas Paine called Geroge a "French bastard", it was actually William who was called a "French bastard". Marc, Thomas Paine called George a "pretender to the throne" and something about it being absurd for a tyrant as such to be called father of the people. I'll update this when I find it again. I'm in the middle of re-reading Paine's collected works. "No Man was a warmer wisher for a reconciliation than myself, before the fatal nineteenth of April, 1775, but the moment the event of that day was made known, I rejected the hardened, sullen-tempered Pharaoh of England for ever; and disdain for this wretch, that with the pretended title of FATHER OF HIS PEOPLE can unfeelingly hear of their slaughter, and composedly sleep with their blood upon his soul". - Thomas Paine, Common Sense.

Wow, cool: 1. "The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. It does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods, or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." - Thomas Jefferson 2. "Peace cannot be kept by force. It can only be achieved by understanding." - A. Einstein. Funny, both of these quotes are exactly what I've tried to illustrate to Thorin on the Righteous Wrath "Election Day" thread. He seemed to think "harm" was subjective, and that "libertarians" would use to force to make those not interested somehow "comply". 1. i.e. "Harm is either physical or economic, anything else may be unfortunate but it needs no remedy" sometimes known as "no harm, no foul". 2. contrary to what Thorin seemed to say in his last post, how "libertarians" would use force to take back property thus using force to impose their moral beliefs. NOPE, us voluntaryists would do our best not to impose our beliefs upon others, but we also believe that an entire SOCIETY of voluntary transactions will naturally arise when the statists see how much BETTER life is for us voluntaryists, us non-violent exchangers of products and services and ideas. It's like what a lot of Christians do, they say "I'm a Christian" then they live a good and happy life, hoping (believing) that the "fruits" they display to the rest of the miserable world will attract the curious and desiring folks, and then they can reveal the basis for the fruit. We're all evangelists of a type with our lives, folks, some more zealously than others
