Yeah, I agree with that, just not the live feed to the web thing. Use the glasses to transmit to a remote recorder in the parking lot is what I'm thinking.

Live feed to the net not is not necessary but as Weis said, "remote storage at another facility is necessary in case they destroy the evidence." In this case you need to be able to transmit as you are recording which is a live feed to somewhere.
With current technology voice is practical and can be done with something like a palm pilot that has built in cell phone technology but video is unlikely without higher transmission rates.
Here is some food for thought, If we are using the mp3 recorders in the court room and they are not aware of it then what's the problem? This is for our reference and record of success and failure to learn. We couldn't use it as evidence in court anyway with the way the deck is stacked. Take em home, and upload'em here or we do what KT said, get a web site called BADJUDGE.COM and Archive there.

I had the pleasure of speaking today with BoyntonStu, the man who started this thread. We had discussed his posting, & I realized where he is coming from. Scroll back to the first thread & look for the implications of what he originally suggested. BTY, killer posts, guys. --Weis

Oops, looks like I hijacked the thread. Sorry bout dat.
What would the officer have to say about it anyway? I mean, it's my camera/mp3 recorder and I want to record the conversation. What does he have to hide?

Look at the Title of the thread. The keyword is TRICK. What trick is Stu suggesting?

O.K., the trick is that you get the pen & pad out & ask if it is o.k. if you are "recording" even though the recorder is secretly on. The cop hopefully consents, thinking that you are just writing it down. I was wondering if we could disguise it even more& ask if it is o.k. if we "make a record".

Great stuff on this thread; I'm getting an education in modern day MP3 technology just reading it.
Anyone know of a good spy device website that would have these kind of miniature MP3 (or other) recorders?

You can get the Mp3 recorders at Best Buy, Walmart, Target, BJ's Wholesale Club. They are easy to get. The 64 Meg model goes for like $50. It comes with a USB port so you can download your files to your computer or upload files to the recorder from the computer.

That's great. Any models with more than 64 megs?

Yeah, the next model up is 128 megs for like $150. Then you have the larger unit that resembles a PalmPilot and has a 20Gig micro hardrive for like $300.
I have also seen this technology incorporated in car stereo units now. The front face plate detaches so you can hook it up to your computer for up/down loading. $300 - $400
I just adapt my 64 meg player to my car stereo via cassette adapter though. Much cheaper.....

Here is a link to a site for iRiver MP3 players. www.iriveramerica.com/products/flash.aspxThey are quite compact and can be attached to a keyring, with little or no hint of being a recording device-Especially the N10 model- They have PLenty of storage, and files can be transfered via usb.

The recording 'device' must be invisible to the metal detectors. Even a tiny key chain 'device' will not make it through security.
A few suggestions:
Place the 'device' into the spare battery compartment of your laptop.
Hide the 'device' in a corded mouse. Use the USB port to power it and the wire as an antenna for remote recording. You can use the hd in the laptop to store the data as well.
etc., etc.
My point is to hide the 'device' in plain view integrated with a commonplace innocuous item.
Cheers and good recordings,
BoyntonStu

I learned in the Army: "Don't ask for permission! You will be denied!"
I just stuck a tape recorder in officers faces and recorded what they said - that's In Southern California. However, although I proved they lied in court, the "judges" - who are even bigger liars than the cops - did not give a hoot! I also recorded said "judges" in court - I just placed a recorder on the table and recorder - BUT.. I also had a recorder in my pocket! in case I was told to turn the first one off.
I now need to be able to convert the tapes to CDs..
