A police officer pulls you over. You want to "Record" the conversation and you are afraid that you will be denied if you ask permission.
Your recording device is turned on.
You hold a pad and pen up and ask, "I am recording this conversation, OK?"
What's he gonna say?

We need some tricks on how to get trials recorded, preferrably on video so everyone else can enjoy the show. Audio would be good too though.

Maybe one of those small cameras you can get in those spy stores. Of course, those metal detectors at the entrance of the courts are a problem.

Portable MP3 players . . . to (ah hem) listen to music while you wait for your case to be called?? some also play fm radio & record voice audio But you can easily demonstrate to the storm trooper that it is really a portable radio/mp3 player/pda which everyone has these days.

Great!
What if we had an MP3 archive of 'cases' here?
A picture is worth 1,000 words, but a recorded success is worth 1,000,000 words!

PS I volunteer to purchase a recording device and lend it out to a AILL member if the recording is shared and if I get the device back.

Man you want to talk about some laughs;
I was at band rehearsal for my church and reading this thread while a choir member was looking over my shoulder reading the threads. You shoulda seen the response. Great conversation builder.

These little Mp3 recorders are great. They are relatively cheap and very small....mine is about the size of cigarette lighter. It holds 64 meg which is enough to record about an hour of mono at a reasonable bit rate.
Something tells me that CD's are already on their way out.

Hey all, I was surfin today, and came across the following: * PalmOne Tungsten T3 (Palmtop Computer PDA) has a voice recorder but I'm not sure the length it will record. ($350 FRN's). * PalmOne Zire 72 (PDA) will record video and has expansion memory slot. Not sure how much or long it will record either. ($299 FRN's). The thing is though, you can stick'em in a briefcase and likely get these things through security as they are actual benign business tools much like you would at the air port. Tell'em anything you like if they ask you, Just don't tell'em, [glow=red,2,300] "hey I'm here to record the wizard that wears a womans dress to work!" [/glow] ;D www.cnet.com or one of the other electronics review sites should have more information. I wonder if they make eye glasses with invisible cameras that can transmit to a recording device left on outside in your car ?? Later. I need to go surf some electronic survelance spy and security sites.

I was wondering if, since palm pilots can hook up to the web, our recordings could be broadcast or stored on the web while we are recording. What if the cop destroys your stuff?

That's a great idea Weis., I am unfamiliar with how it's actually done. Anyone here know how to do it?

You need some type of wireless connection which is limited in distance. Some palm pilots use cell phone technology (I had a handspring [like a palm pilot] that doubled as a cell phone and could also dial an internet connection) but I doubt the bandwidth and processing power is enough to transmit a live video feed to the internet.
(IMHO that technology is not more than 2 to 5 years away though. Some Tech. companies are starting to market VoIP video phones for high bandwidth connection users like cable/DSL/T1/High Speed Wireless Internet - which is a form of limited power Microwave and requires an omnidirectional tranciever on one end, and a bi directional parabolic antenna and tranciever on the other at fixed points line of sight. [Like dish network tv]) Fairly good video transmission is possible now over high bandwidth internet connections. MS Netmeeting, WebEX, CUCME (Pronounced See U See Me) etc.
It is possible to set up answering machine software on your home PC if you have a voice modem then call from your palm pilot w/cell phone and record it. You might have to monkey with the settings though so you could record to the limits of your hard drive rather than just a few minutes per message but I'm sure that is possible with technology available off the shelf today.
Some MP3 Players have Digital Voice Record mode and can get upwards of 6 to 12 hours of voice on them but they are considerably larger than the one KT mentioned in this thread.

P.S.
I will do some checking and see what is possible/feasible with today's technology. Try to acquire some equipment and do some testing (I need a new Pilot anyway and wanted a Portable MP3 Player Now I have a reason). If there are any other techies or non-techies out there post some more ideas. I'm sure we can find ways to collaborate and improve the ideas on this thread.

I don't see why we would need a live feed. Just a regular old recording that can be edited, compressed and put on the web would be the thing. Heh heh, the "BadJudge.com" archives.
The glasses idea is great. I have seen these before. I imagine they ain't cheap though.

Some type of remote storage at another facility is necessary in case they destroy the device
