What does this say about us? Could the Bible be accurate at Jeremiah 17:9? People are stupid (and scary, and evil). A person is less often so, on their own. And yes, Jereremiah 17:9 is accurate. In fact, I used it as a starting point once when preaching the gospel at a men's shelter (to homeless guys who were mostly struggling with chemical/gambling addictions)... and I didn't get anyone disagreeing. Especially when I followed up with Jesus' own words(*) about the human heart being the source of every type of sinful wickedness... ;D (*)Matthew 12:34-35; Matthew 15:18-20; Mark 7:21-23; Luke 6:45.

People are stupid. I agree. One of the things that I have a hard time dealing with is my own stupidity. I really don't have much control over it either. The main problem with doing something stupid is that you don't really see that it is stupid until after you do it. The best you can do is learn from your own stupidity but fortunately, you can learn from other's stupidity as well.
The heart of man is desparately wicked mainly because we are basically selfish and/or self- centered. That is another thing that I don't seem to have much control over.
I don't like being this way but it is a reality that I just have to deal with. If I really had "free will" I'd change it.
