"...or completely off-topic or slightly-related objections, strawman arguments, etc... like Ian on Coast To Coast. "
did you mean C2C or FreeTalkLive?

BTW, I prefer to have the controversial discussions out in the open on fora for the simple reason that there are more eyes and minds and more likelihood that someone will come up with a viewpoint that I've not thought of before. I do this stuff more for my own learning than to educate others. (Virtue of Selfishness and other Auntie Ayn thoughts come to mind.)

To me, public discussion with these people has a double-edged sword nature to it. Yes there is always the "possibility" that one or more might quietly go "huh -- I never thought of that... I should look deeper into this issue..." But it's also very likely that those fence-sitters will not openly state their half-agreement... Instead there are a few vocal naysayers, playing the Bill O'Reilly game, basically shouting down actual open debate and logical argument, and making it so it quickly turns into a battle of extreme examples and emotionalism (at which point the admins typically lock the thread, or at least suggest we are in danger of a "flame war", even if it's only one person getting all emotional). <-- hey wait, doesn't some of that sound similar to what a couple of threads on *this* forum have experienced? Anyway, I was hoping via email there was more a chance of "one-on-one" discussion, specifically about the contents of Marc's article (and especially the cases he cites) without the other participant being fearful of "looking like he agrees with crazy ol' Darren". Hope misplaced, I suspect... :-\ PS: Ian from Coast To Coast -- the guy who let Marc speak for almost 3 hours, but didn't barely hear anything he actually said (Ian from FTL may be a closet mini-archist -- always promoting the free "state" project, encouraging people to vote... -- but he is a great guy,and has proven many times that he is definitely able to discuss rationally with folks the pros and cons of a position, without resorting to the BillO method of silencing opposing views -- heck, he talked with Marc *twice* and both were very productive interviews. )

just want to chime-in here that I too found Marc's article his most valuable yet!
had been trying to get up enough nerve to coax Marc into writing in detail on this very subject - but felt I lacked the standing?

you might want to remind such, that this is a moral issue*; not a "political" one; nor is it "political views" (...if it was political, you'd have a "party"; think "party convention" with party hats & horns every four years, etc; which these intoxicated types want-- see his ref to "the occasional joke") i'm taking-- and thus offering --the general position Stefan Molyneux offers**: "Hey, are you my friend or are you gladly paying those doing or seeking to coerce, threaten, lie, rob and steal from me and my loved ones? ** Stefan position examples: 1) Freedom's Failure2) How We Will Winin many ways its time to stop dancing with our accusers, to the beat of their drums, always with their expectation to get some booty sometime after midnight in the dark~ (where the question comes: as a dance partner, are we a whore-- awaiting midnight ourselves... a prostitute-- awaiting our cut... a tease-- needing our own pleasure... or delusional ourselves-- thus setting ourselves up to be screwed again...AND taking their blame?) no longer being a "miss congeniality" emailer may be one of the ways...? --eye2i2hear * as perhaps i reminded you...

You're right, in hindsight, if I was this week willing to send Marc's factual/logical/legal article, I should have been willing to send this email to my whole group of friends, and not just one of them. Stupid, silly, cowardly me... Maybe I'll wait a week and do so. ;D Got Poker Night at Dirt's house tonight... Maybe I'll casually mention the 10 DTDS radio shows that I have linked to in my forum signature for a year but for which I have never directly promoted... See what comes of it too. If anyone actually listens and criticize it as "political" or even "too idealistic/utopian" I'll say "Well, you heard how many times I used a certain illustration... Since you disagree with my moral position then I suppose I'll be over tomorrow to take your couch. "

Marc,
I read through the article last night. . . . Classic Marcism, not to be confused with Marxism ;D
Beautymouse. I wouldn't change a thing.
P.S.
Thanks for the additional ammo but I doubt it will do any good in my up comming case.
