I recall hearing or reading somewhere that those who went on the "AIDS cocktail"* or even took certain "AIDS tests" seemed to have the serious symptoms kick in, i.e. it's not as simple as the existence of a so-called virus. IMHO, the "drug hypothesis" linked above makes a lot more sense than some theoretical virus trigger which goes against the criteria of a true viral infection.

University of Alberta researcher has found a way to regrow teeth from the root. I don't know if there has to still be some rooth left to work with, but this may help those of us missing a few teeth (Zapta comes to mind in particular)

While I may not at the present time be "missing" any teeth, I am at the present time "letting nature take its[her?] course" re. my cavity-ized wisdom tooth... so perhaps I've chosen the better path, since this way perhaps the root will remain intact and be able to be "regrown"? :-\

A Canadian invention may make the gap-toothed smiles so closely associated with the sport of ice hockey a thing of the past. And it happened by chance.

Prof. Tarek El-Bialy, a member of the University of Alberta's faculty of medicine and dentistry, was researching jaw growth in rats.

"Accidentally when I applied the ultra sound I saw the lower incisors grow," he told CTV News. "It was an interesting, unbelievable growth."

He then came up with the concept of low-intensity pulsed ultrasound as a means of repairing dental tissue by gently massaging the root of a broken tooth.

The result was a device that has the ability to re-grow lost teeth -- a common casualty of professional ice hockey where players are not required to wear cages or visors.

But the technology was far too bulky and needed to be used for a year to generate results. So he teamed up with Jie Chen, an associate engineering professor, in order to find a way to make the technology smaller and more user-friendly.

Another colleague, Ying Tsui, an associate professor of engineering at the university, was also brought on board for the design.

The result is a tiny device that won't be exclusive to toothless hockey players.

"Everyone will be able to use this -- from the hockey player to the child who knocked out a tooth," Chen, also a member of the university's National Institute for Nanotechnology, told the Globe and Mail.

The three have since filed a patent on the device.

And although it's still in the prototype stages, the tiny device is expected to be on the market within two years.

It will be designed to be mounted on a set of braces or on a plastic removable crown, and will need to be activated for 20 minutes each day for about four weeks in order to generate noticeable results.

The inventors say it will have the ability to re-grow teeth and stimulate jawbone growth to straighten out smiles - even for hockey players.

"It would have a fantastic practical application," said Dr. Anthony Sneazwell, team dentist for the Edmonton Oilers, who has seen more than his share of missing teeth.

Canadian and American regulatory groups have already approved the device, but it will probably take two years for the patent to be approved.

am I reading this right...?... as they're saying it will grow a tooth from the jaw? or are they saying/meaning by "root" some part of the tooth itself having to remain? for example, I had wisdom teeth extracted years ago... where it would be great to know if one wanted, they could be grown back; then also, I have a front tooth that cracked off in back, so the root of it is obviously still in place~

also be nice to know how this might impact those of us with mercury fillings from childhood...?!

These unorthodox ( ) thinkers are from a university local to me here in Edmonchuk; no less! U of Eh oops I mean U of A always has cutting-edge medical breakthroughs! Must be the cold winters, lots of time for folks to do serious pondering ;D Also why we have so many funny people who head "down south" to make the Big Bucks (soon to be worth less than Canuck Bucks? :-\ ) -- cold weather = staying indoors and letting the creative mind go nuts.

Here's what I What's even more exciting is that these folks -- they aren't planning on just adding a new "procedure" to the dentistry industry's long list of pricey offerings. They have a prototype of a GADGET that the average Joe Toothless might be able to utilize in their home -- possibly as a "rental"... prolly only from those with a "government license" (i.e. agreeing to pay the state a 2% cut or whatever) but maybe it'll motivate more folks to invent alternative-medicine gadgets that will also be available in ... "unlicensed" outlets. ;D

Every once in a while I realize how ignorant I am and to be honest its a pretty depressing feeling. Diet Coke causing cancer and other symptoms might not be fresh news for you but for me it is.

It's the issue about Aspartame which is used in many products we eat.

This documentary really opened my eyes on what substances are used in our everyday foods and how clueless we are about the health hazards they can cause. Diet Cokes and Chewing Gums are no longer things I consider safe. In my mind they now fall under the same category as Cigarettes and over Burned BBQ.

Why I post about this on High T3ch ? Well, Perhaps the more people know about it the faster will we see it off the shelves. I might be spending more time in the supermarket checking labels, looking for Aspartame.

Fluorinex a company form Isreal is claiming that they have invented a way of avoiding cavities for five years. Their invention works by putting some special gel inside a form fitting mouth tray, inserting it into the mouth and zapping the tray with six to nine volts from a battery or wall socket.

It will impose an efficient ion exchange process through an Electro-chemical reaction in which fluor ions displace the Hydroxide ions at the outer layer of the tooth. This is intended to produce a new mineral layer with significantly improved chemical and physical resistance to the aggressive bacteria and the resulting acidic environment in the mouth.

Fluorinex claims the new product will be able to give protection for up to five years and will be administered by a simple procedure at the dental clinic. The new device should be ready for commercial use in a year and a half and is currently undergoing clinical trials after extensive research had been done at the Hebrew University last year.

I must go now and celebrate the no brush no fluss no pain no dentist no worries no bobo future !

Hmmm,

I had someone tell me recently while we were looking at a chunk of purple mineral fluorite that this is the stuff put into toothpaste.

I said, hmmm, I thought fluorite was a naturally occurring mineral which as I understand it, is actually good for enamel, but sodium fluoride was the actual compound put into tooth paste and that it can also be used as rat poison.
