Just thought I would add some additional solutions in order to help bring about a voluntary society, and become more wealthy in the process...I'll start simple.... I. Actions that help keep investment capital local1. Buy locally grown (and preferably organic) produce, poultries and meats whenever possible through either your local community farm, co-op, or farmer's market, or better yet, if you can, grow your own! 2. Choose independently owned restaurants as opposed to Wall Street dependent eateries when dining out...Encourage the restaurants you patronize to buy their staples from local venues as much as possible... 3. When buying furniture (Yes, I know most of it is manufactured in China and elsewhere!), consider recyclables that correspond to your individual tastes from house, garage and yard sales, and maybe even that rare local independent furniture manufacturer.... 4. Look for community banks to deposit your money as opposed to the wall street thieves...Find others that wish to do the same and go to that community bank as a group...Groups tend to have more bargaining power in regard to overall service, including miscellaneous charges, interest rates, etc... 5. Take a long hard look at where you're investing your money...The stock market is not a crap shoot, but rather a rigged game in which the elite acquires wealth not by selling a useful product, but by collective acquisitions used in order to artificially inflate the stock and later sell at a profit, unless their goal is control of certain technologies, in which case they help tank the stock by calling in all pertinent loans, weeding out the faint of heart, as well as those with limited capital, and then buy in for pennies on the dollar...Divest your money from that game...Find local alternatives for your capital that are independent from the stock market... (Note) I don't like quoting government bureaucracies, but in this instance, it helps to expose their hypocrisy and total disregard their own so called "rule of law"...As of 1999, according to the Department of Justice, 600 billion to one trillion dollars is being laundered through Wall Street each year...Most of that money is suspected by the DoJ of being direct proceeds from "illegal" drugs and gun running...6. Encourage those in your community to initiate their own local currency...Encourage the local businesses you buy from, including your community bank to accept local currency...This would make possible the short term interest free loans that would in turn create an environment conducive to potential new entrepeneurs...An actual real life example is Ithaca, NY...Paul Glover, a local Ithaca activist help bring about the concept of Ithaca Hours...Read more about it here... www.ithacahours.com/I'll have much more to follow...It first starts with ourselves...I'm sure there are many other ideas out there...I welcome other suggestions... Drop local banks entirely, as their all gov't agents.
Make a living anonymously through the internet.
A thief cannot steal what they don't know about.

Some of us like to actually produce something more useful than electrons. Like cabinets or furniture. Kind of hard to conceal that stuff. Besides some don't feel right about charging for information unless it's for talents and skills as a programmer or something.
And . . . there's an awful lot of electronic payment methods that are still tied into the banking system for transfers. Even E-Gold has been raided.
Now cash, gold, silver, food, or other material items in hand traded is much harder to trace.

Solutions? Maybe Marc could have Jimmy Walter as a guest sometime soon (unless Jimmy is too busy) -- see www.walden3.org/ "A Sustainable, Luxurious Life, for the Entire World: A Practical Utopia Is Achievable Today" <-- some pretty good technological and sociological ideas in there, not blatantly anarchy-friendly though, but still, some good ideas.

Good start! 6. Encourage those in your community to initiate their own local currency...Encourage the local businesses you buy from, including your community bank to accept local currency...This would make possible the short term interest free loans that would in turn create an environment conducive to potential new entrepeneurs...An actual real life example is Ithaca, NY...Paul Glover, a local Ithaca activist help bring about the concept of Ithaca Hours...Read more about it here... www.ithacahours.com/"...click the Starter Kit button for information on how to begin a local currency program in your own community..." - - - My thoughts (this week at least, no guarantee of logic of thoughts, your mileage may vary, do not read while operating heavy machinery, yada yada...) Inspired by Marc's last couple of shows, I've been doing some serious thinking about the feasibility of a private alternative (eventual replacement?) for either the bulk postal "service", or local bus/transit. The transit service motto would be "Take The Freedom Bus!", and the buses would be like those half-size buses since they're not a half million bucks each that way. The rate would be a reasonable "halfway" between normal bus fare (here it is $2.25) and a typical short cab ride (here it starts at $3.60 and is $0.20 every 150 metres or something, therefore a 7 block trip cost me $7.00 the other night). So the rate would be approximate double the initial rate of the local cab fare (which is set by local government, of course ) and the service itself would work like a combination of an individual taxicab + "dial a bus" occasional service + car pooling. Gotta work out more of the details, but could see this having an online component showing WHERE the buses currently are, 1-800 # to "call for pickup", having the bus driver call when a few minutes away (typically at your door or within 1 or 2 blocks, that's the real selling point over normal bus routes!) Idea started formign when I thought about how inefficient normal every-half-hour bus routes are, and how frustrating it is not knowing exactly how soon the bus will show up, I got to thinking since most everyone has cell phones nowadays, and since the airport here has a "shuttle bus" service this would be a logical extension of how that works, with more "customization" of the routes. "Take The Freedom Bus" because use of this service would imply acceptance of a really simple contract, that has explicitly said "no involvement of government at any level including dealing with alleged breach of contract", and yes that would include both the fare and the "licensing" of the drivers and vehicles There, I've summed up the business plan, generalized it so any one of you folks could also do similar, improve the idea, and make a bazillion FRNs/BCNs

I'm SURE the thugs would shut you down, so the trick would be to set it up in such a fashion that they couldn't. It would all have to be voluntary and donation, but within that structure you might be able to set up some "understandings." Like a P2P computer network it would also have to be totally without a head for some bureaucrat to cut off. In fact, the legal situation with the P2P networks might be very helpful in constructing a plan for building this idea of yours.
Cool beans!

I'm SURE the thugs would shut you down, so the trick would be to set it up in such a fashion that they couldn't. Maybe "The Freedom Carpool Transit Collective" would make it sound harmless and not an actual business

... Seriously, though, I thought about something during the weekend.
Identification.
When you get a membership at the video store, or want to talk about your power bill, they need "identification". This is of course shorthand for "government-issued" or at least "government recognized" identification.
Which means, only the "government" has credibility when it comes to vouching for who you really are.
What if there was a website, mirrored heavily for data integrity purposes, available to the public...
Sorta like a credit bureau, perhaps let's call it the "IDB" (Identification Bureau) or just "IB". On it you can choose to have your information -- of your own choosing -- available, most would prefer it has all of your name, signature, and most importantly VOICE and VIDEO and HANDWRITING samples. Your "ID" card is not "government issued" but is simply a reference to the entry in the above database.
I can imagine all sorts of MAJOR corporate websites keeping a copy to assist in good PR, to make them look more trustworthy, with the same subdomain prefix and a similar interface or at least the same data structure available through web services XML etc... like ib.microsoft.com/ or ib.google.com/ etc.
Again, anyone can go and confirm the data via any normal browser (https:// to secure it to ensure the data is not modified along the way, even though anonymous users would have access). What a concept, no paying a credit bureau for "your" information!
So imagine this: when you open a bank account, they ask for ID, a new alternative to jotting down your DRIVER'S license (why do BANKS need to know about your driving information?) instead they look at your IB card, which says in bold letters "THIS IS TO BE USED AS IDENTIFICATION BUT IS NOT ISSUED BY ANY GOVERNMENT" and they use their judgement to confirm that a) the ID card matches your face and signature and height etc, and also b) the ID card info matches what is in dozens, nay HUNDREDS of mirrors of the central IB.
Boom -- no more justification for "birth certificates" or other ways of the state claiming to have "jurisdiction" over you. It's similar to how passports just require some "honourable member of the community" to vouch for you (a few of them, apparently), maybe like Wikipedia there would be dozens of "older versions" of your record to people could see if someone tried altering the voice sample or your signature or whatever.
Did I mention that it is YOUR CHOICE what details are stored? If you don't want your address or phone #s then leave them out -- and include a handwritten note that says you want them excluded (handwriting would match the handwriting sample)
To me, this would address the alleged justification for GOVERNMENT issuing the only identification most innocent business people will accept:
"How do I know you are really Darren Dirt?"
old answer (the truth behind the legalese/political spin): "Because this piece of plastic has words written on it that I *claim* were properly written out by some men/women claiming to be 'government'... "
new answer: "Because I am willing to right now sit in front of your camera and do a video, audio, and handwriting sample after which you can compare them to any of the dozens of mirrored IB servers around the world, and to use your own judgement whether they match (or I am a brilliant imposter, in which case you're unlikely to secure your resources from me anyway)."
Thoughts? Or am I as crazy as my "taxi/carpool/public transit" combination idea from a while ago... "Take The Freedom Train!" :-\

This should be A permanent thread. Flipping for resolve and solution. Brain Storming. The internet is in danger of not by only the prying eye of big brother but this charge for e-mail is just the lip of disaster to a short lived freedom. I wonder what government corporation would ingest these funds. Somebody is eyeing trillions and they ain't gon' let up 'til they figure it out.
It would be nice to generate these types of projects (community oriented commerce)
