A few weeks ago this judge came home to find her husband and mother shot dead. subsquently the man who is believed to have done this was pulled over for a traffic violation at ehich time he commited suicide on the spot later it was learned that his reason for his action was that he was waiting for this judge to come home but being "discovered" shot the husband and mother instead. The reason for this senseless murder; He had a court case concerning medical treatment for mouth cancer. It was a 130 page "rambling" brief that was dutifully dismissed on the tried and true one sentence legal opinion; "for failure to state a claim upon which relief may be granted" Sound Familar? people died for this inane "Legal Opinion" it is a sad story for everyone ,but "justice was served" right? any thoughts on this?

Violence on either side will not resolve the problem. The problem then becomes, if we remain non-violent how can we halt their violence upon us?

Gunman opens fire at Atlanta courthouse; 2 reported dead
ATLANTA (AP) — A judge and court reporter were killed and two deputies were wounded in a shooting at the Fulton County Courthouse in downtown Atlanta on Friday. Authorities were hunting for the gunmen.
The judge, later identified as Superior Court Judge Roland Barnes, was shot on the eighth floor of the courthouse, while one of the deputies was shot on a street corner just outside the building, said Officer Alan Osborne with the Atlanta Police Department.
Witnesses said the gunman carjacked a car and authorities were searching for several vehicles reported stolen in the area.
Fulton County Sheriff's Lt. Clarence Huber identified the suspect as 34-year-old Brian Nichols, who was being held on rape charges stemming from an incident in August.
Lt. Gov. Mark Taylor interrupted floor action in the Georgia Senate to announce the shooting. "It appears that Superior Court Judge Roland Barnes has lost his life, along with his court reporter," Taylor told lawmakers.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution newsroom staff was being told that Don O'Briant, a features reporter for the paper, was beaten by the suspect outside the courthouse. Mike King, an editorial board member for the paper, said O'Briant was taken to Grady Hospital.
The hospital reported that it as treating two deputies. It was not immediately known the extent of their injuries.
"I saw one person on the street that they were perfoming CPR on," said court reporter Amy McKee.
District Attorney spokesman Erik Friedly said the shootings started shortly after 9 a.m. on the building's eighth floor.
Witnesses said the suspect carjacked a car and authorities were searching for several vehicles reported stolen in the area.
All the judges in the building were locked in their chambers. The courthouse and other buildings in downtown Atlanta were on lockdown. Traffic in the blocks surrounding the courthouse was backed up as police cruisers flooded the area looking for the suspect.
Judge Barnes recently sentenced former Atlanta Thrashers player Dany Heatley, who pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide in the death of a teammate.

Boy, yet another Sad Story. Violence on either side is just plain USELESS! Also I heard that the deputy that was escorting the suspect was a woman. Not to sound "politicaly incorrect" but what were they Thinking? People die for poltical correctness' yet another lie from our benvolent protectors.

surfsup: People die for poltical correctness' yet another lie from our benvolent protectors.
Harry: It took me a while to understand that remark. Political correctness IS a lie, but (1) I don't see that at work here. (a) To be a female police officer one has to know how to handle oneself. (b) There wasn't necessarily any reason to expect trouble -- it wasn't, apparently, this guy's first appearance at this trial. (2) I don't necessarily see it as a lie "from our benevolent protectors." To whom are you referring, exactly?
surfsup: It was a 130 page "rambling" brief that was dutifully dismissed on the tried and true one sentence legal opinion; "for failure to state a claim upon which relief may be granted"
Harry: From my job, I am well familiar with that expression. It means the guy failed to allege anything that was actually illegal or tortious. It can be wrong as rain, but if it isn't illegal or tortious, the courts can't help you.
Now, that COULD simply be a problem of the exact wording he used in the complaint. On the one hand, he was representing himself. On the other hand, he apparently was, by this time, quite enough of a nut case, as to be unable to say anything anyone might make sense of.
What seems regrettable, on the one hand, is his failure to seek restorative plastic surgery. Along with, as the judge herself noted somewhere along the way, his chronic severe pain. Back in the 1960s, the fore-runners of political correctness were telling us medicine, and especially surgery, could fix everything, with no lasting ill effects. Those days are gone now.

Harry, This Nichols Guy Had been caught a week Prior with two handmade Jail "knives" and while in court was giving all the "court" personel and Jurors the "stink eye"(Hawaiian Pidgen for threating looks and if you ever lived there you would know what I mean!) and he was over 6ft+ tall so yes I think it was not Prudent thinking to have this woman escorting him. Duh! In this era of "blurred" role models. a female officer is in noway going to be able to withstand an assault, I don't care what studies are published. Years ago I had a landlord that was the first female firefighter in the Los Angeles Fire dept. and they had to make the strength test way less demanding in order for her to" pass "( they Even made a TV movie about her "struggle " to become a fire fighter) so this "agenda " has been festering for decades as has the complete "vulgarazation" of our "society"
