Before posting any further on this site, please note: So, you may wish to copy/paste old posts you feel significant or important on this site over to the new one in order to keep them active. Also, feel free to "bump" this thread to keep it alive as a reminder...

Yeah, I'm gonna go ahead and, um, do a full 1-.MHT-per-thread "backup" either this weekend or next for the benefit of whoever is interested, mkay?
So Marc, even if you decide to turn off the "create new thread" and/or "add new post" ability, please keep the "readable" ability on -- in fact, maybe keep the whole forum as Readable To Anonymous, but no more posting (that way it can be Googled and thousands, nay millions may be enlightened by your/our wisdom?

so Darren, do you know if there's a simple way to move an entire thread, in context/format, over to the new forum as a thread there?
and meanwhile, it would at least be nice to know if hyper-linking in the new forum to this forum would be practical...?

so Darren, do you know if there's a simple way to move an entire thread, in context/format, over to the new forum as a thread there? I would say with 100% certainty: nope. Proboards has its internal database containing all the content. And it's not available except via the HTML you are viewing now. However, my suggestion of viewing the one-page-printable version of each thread, and saving it as an .MHT file (via Internet Explorer, or via Mozilla's MHT extension) is the best way to at least have an "archive/backup". But as I said above, Proboards administration is very flexible, allowing you to mark entire sections of your forum as "Not Editable Except By Admins". Just like how Marc turned off anonymous EDITING, he can turn ON anonymous VIEWING (for posterity's sake). IMHO. *one can hope*

it's night time, dark, scary... the wind is rattling the windows and shadows flash across the walls...

He'll probably keep the old forum readable.

it would at least be nice to know if hyper-linking in the new forum to this forum would be practical...? I don't see why not. I suggested inserting trackback links to new posts in the new forum to stuff that's in here.

If this forum remains readable only (indefinitely, for posterity) then I will happily proclaim this: This thread ("Before you post on this...") is now the ONLY thread that I will ever post in anymore. Wow, eh? That's saying something Thanks K & M for all that you have done so far, and for the coming "growing pains" that you will endure silently in the near future...

Everything on this board should be copied over to the new one, before this one's destroyed. Lots of crap in here, but a lot of gems too -- diamonds in the rough.

Another post from the NEVER AGAIN WILL I EVER POST ANYTHING HERE AT ALL EVER person. ;D Now we know for sure that you are as full of it as I am. - NonE Lord Marc, please deliver us from temptation... Seriously though, starting my backup now (got some SRV playing in the background, screen size is 1280x1024, time to shift-click open a dozen threads at a time... wish me luck folks. PS: please do NOT CREATE ANY NEW THREADS on here, mkay? It makes the "page ##" get difficult for me when I'm backing up the forum. Good news though, this should take me half the time of last October's job... Then it was all 42 "pages", now it seems the "modified since then" starts at page 21 (so pages 22..42 are already backed up). Wish me luck, folks... ;D PS: "old" backup from Oct2006 is now hosted here: www.mydatabus.com/public/simonj/29Oct2006_AiLL_backup.zipI willupload the new one (Jun2007) on the same site, and will include the old stuff in the same zip. But if anyone wants to grab the old one just in case stuff has disappeared in the last 7 months, feel free to take up that task

*ahem* OPEN THE ZIP and look at its contents! Seriously though, I posted an answer on a thread on the NEW forum, I guess I'll just QUOTE it here so I no longer need to be confused why you're still confused... linkFurther explanation... Unzip it keeping the relative directories intact (i.e. the default for programs like Winzip) and you will see that each "page" of 20 threads has its own folder. Inside the folder is a file called "_Adventures in Legal Land - General Board.mht" which lists all of the 20 threads, but clicking those links would open the ACTUAL forum online. Offline you can just open the .MHT file for the thread itself. You need to use Internet Explorer to open the MHT files (a single file for each thread, all posts in one file) however Mozilla has an extension to view "MHT HTML Archive format" (which I include inside the ZIP as well). HTH. - - - PS: *MARC* when are you going to change this old forum to "Read Only To Everyone Including Anonymous Users" so we don't have to login to reference old threads? [presuming that was part of The Plan...]

YAY! I could read this forum as a non-logged-in GUEST (!) Thanks, Marc. Hope my PM on the new forum helps you figure out how to "lock out" any new postings -- you know, like this one...
